I came to stories
through two lenses

I started with a camera and an open heart — unburdened and free of prejudice.

Behind the lens, I learn to see. The mountains of faraway lands at dawn. A child's face the moment she understands a Math formula I wrote on the blackboard. An old woman's calloused working hands the first time she writes her name.

This is the first lens I see the world. Soft light. Patient observation. The simple belief that if you look and listen long enough, with enough care, you will find something worth honoring.

But I also carry a second lens.

Narrower. Sharper. The one I reach for when moving from observations to actions. The doubts of the parents. The doors that stay closed because of geography. The futures quietly narrowed by systems.

I fell in love with the world, and furious at the distance between what it was and what it could be.

Debate taught me that the clearest form of care is precision, that vague outrage changes nothing, but a well-constructed argument can.

Public speaking taught me that a story, told in the right lenses, with the right audience, about the right problem, is the most persuasive, inspirational tool.

Photography taught me to look before I conclude, and cherish what makes human be human.

I switch my lenses constantly when telling stories. The quiet dreamer who sees and listens, and the advocate who stands up and says — this is wrong, and here is why!
